Connecting Pentair equipment
Pentair splits cleanly into two groups. Newer pumps and heaters speak RS-485 on a two-wire pair — yellow is DATA+, green is DATA-, on every one of them. Older pumps and the heaters' fireman's switch run from dry contacts instead.

Pentair IntelliFlo3 and IntelliPro3 Pumps
An 18-24 AWG two-conductor cable from the pump's DATA+ and DATA- terminals to a PORT. Includes the continuous-power requirement automation imposes.
Pentair IntelliFlo i1, i2, VSF / IntelliPro / WhisperFlo VS Pumps
The earlier IntelliFlo family on the same yellow/green pair, addressed on the pump keypad before the bus will answer.
Pentair SuperFlo Pumps
Older SuperFlo units take speed commands on four dry contacts rather than a bus — which uses every dry contact the module has.
Pentair MasterTemp Heater
Either a fireman's switch across J2 or RS-485 on J4. Covers the 24 VAC contact rating and the wiring mistake that destroys the control board.
Pentair UltraTemp Heat Pump
Relay mode on the J7 three-wire terminals or RS-485 on J8, with a Remote Mode menu setting that has to match the wiring.
Pentair UltraTemp ETi Hybrid Heater / Heat Pump
Gas and heat pump in one cabinet, on the same two control options — plus the question of which stage the module is actually commanding.
