Jandy

Jandy AquaPure / TruClear Salt Water Chlorine Generator

Every other Jandy device ignores the two outer conductors. The chlorinator does not — it needs the bus energised before it will communicate at all, and the iSmart Module has no rail to energise it with. Budget for a separate supply.

The four conductors

PinColourPurposeGoes to
1RedSupply positivePositive of the external supply
2BlackDataPORT terminal A
3YellowDataPORT terminal B
4GreenSupply commonPORT terminal G, and the supply negative
Unlike a pump, all four conductors are used here. Two carry data to the module and two carry power from the external supply.
The Jandy four-pin connector with black and yellow going to a PORT, red to an external supply, and green bonded once between the supply negative and the PORT's G.
The supply negative and the module's G must be the same node. Bond them at one point.

Power for the cell itself

Separately from the bus, the chlorinator's own mains supply is conventionally taken from the load side of the filter pump relay, so the cell can only energise while the pump is running. That interlock is worth preserving: it is what stops the cell generating into static water.

Cable

  • Four-conductor outdoor rated cable, 22 AWG minimum.
  • Keep black and yellow as one twisted pair where the cable allows.
  • Ground any shield at the iSmart Module end only.
  • Route clear of the cell cable, which is the noisiest thing on the pad.

When it does not come up

SymptomWhere to look first
No communication at allNo supply on the outer pair. On this device that is the default assumption, not a last resort.
Supply present, still silentSwap black and yellow.
Mainboard port dead after wiringThe red conductor reached a data terminal.
Cell never generatesIts mains feed, and whether the pump interlock is satisfied.
Salt reading looks wrong at start-upNeeds flow and a settling period before the reading means anything.
